PictureBag-In-Box (BIB) Wine
BIB Wine: As consumers, we were sick of paying £8-9 for an undrinkable glass of wine so when we opened the café, we were determined to do better. It needed a radical approach and we looked at the (largely European) trend towards bag-in-box (BiB) wine.
Advantages:
  • Glass bottles are heavy so are more expensive to transport/store than boxes. Much of price tag of bottled wine is spent on moving it around the world.
  • BiB wine boxes create a lot less waste than bottles. Both the box and internal plastic bag is recyclable.
  • With no light or air penetration, the BiB pouch is fantastic at keeping the wine fresh once opened.

Our supplier specialises in low intervention wines from small vineyards. Those winemakers try to keep things as natural and simple as possible, and the wines we stock are (variously) organic, low sulphites, and vegetarian/vegan.

Undeniably some won't like the idea of wine from a box, but the wine industry has firmly taken this on board, and given the huge savings, it is the way forward. Ultimately we, like the producers, are motivated by real quality - not just the perception of quality.

PictureEasily dispensed
If you wish to enjoy BiB wine at home, we are happy to supply wines direct from our supplier.
  • 5LT boxes are equivalent to nearly 7 bottles
  • 10LT boxes contains over 13 bottles
Amazingly they do not take up that much space. Once opened, they easily keep well for drinking for a month.

If you don't have space in the fridge for the box, you can dispense into a bottle and place the bottle in the fridge. Once dispensed, the wine should be drunk in 1-2 days.

The cardboard boxes can be recycled through usual home recycling. The plastic inner bags can be returned to us.

All the wines we have chosen are vegan. They are also either organic or low sulphite.
